I have a son who is a young adult suffering from a variety of serious health issues, including Lyme, Bartonella, autism, a past brain injury, hyper-mobility syndrome, and a college drug exposure that triggered brain inflammation, psychosis and forced him into a 24-hour care residential facility. I am implementing a number of different treatment approaches with him in an attempt to help him heal and regain some independence in his life.

What I have learned on this “healing journey” is that no one person or doctor has all the answers, everyone is unique and responds to treatments differently, and unless you finally address the underlying emotional components that stem from past trauma you will eventually reach a point where you are unable to move forward with healing.

When my son had reached a plateau with his lyme and brain treatments, I brought him to Tina to try to help address his past emotional trauma (which was significant, and something that had not been addressed properly). I had already tried a number of other counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists for him, but none of them had been helpful. I was actually quite skeptical that Tina would be able to help him at all since he was so stuck in his own world, but she has been wonderful for him and he is responding very well to her sessions.

On his first visit with Tina our son was very agitated, unable to make eye contact and unable to really participate much during the session, but Tina was able to put him at ease and work with him anyway.

Over a period of several months, he has become more aware of his surroundings, is now able to pull himself together for short periods of time to focus on what is being said to him and answer appropriately. He now willingly comes in and sits down in Tina’s office for his sessions (and participates). It’s very clear that he relates to her, she makes him feel comfortable and good about himself, and little by little he is coming out of his shell and starting to participate in life again.
While my son still has a long road ahead of him, he’s made so much progress in such a short period of time that continuing his work with Tina will remain a very important part of his recovery program.
